3. Deep in the Heart of Texas ... True Grit

Texas - ProNet World Tour August  03 2003

We've been on the road now for a month and a half, and heading East from Long Beach, over the mountains and are now inbound to Dallas, Texas, 1450 miles closer to the sunrise. Since we left Victoria, we've covered over 4500 km of North America. Here we are on a low and over pass by the home of the Dallas Cowboys, enroute to a couple of radio interviews. We switched pilots over the mountains, and if you look closely thru the canopy, you'll see that Flying Fitz occupies the right seat as the new Pilot in command. We picked up the rest of the Aircrew in the parking lot of the Dallas Cowboys stadium: Jason Nowell of RC Groups and Raymond Cervantes on camera.

The first interview takes place at 99.1 KICK FM in Dallas. The thing you have to watch in these close up situations is not to beat up the mike with your rotors. Plus, these DJ's are pretty crazy guys, and you never know what they'll cook up on air.

Man, are my rotors tired after the flight, and doing the heavy lift for the Texas Crew. These boys are really heavy, gram wise. What you didn't see on the video is that they had to talk KICK into lending us the Cruiser to drive on over to the second radio interview at Estereo Latino, 94.1 FM. Pretty embarrassing for a kick-ass Heli, that's for sure.

At this point, the formal interviews were over, and it was time for a little R&R, Texas style. I can't  remember exactly who said what, and when, but we ended up at Silver City. As you can see, I'm still a little shaky and Fitz had to hold me up for this Hummer Photo Op (that's my story.. I don't drink.. really.. don't have a tank, so can't get tanked .. Jason will back me up on that one..)

So we borrowed the hummer, thanks to the fast talking silver tongued crew, and headed over to the Planet, home of  RC Groups.

The tour of RC Groups servers came off really well. Did you notice in the video  that we had to  lift off surrounded by high suction floor return air grilles? It ain't easy, they are sort of like mechanical venus fly traps. Pictured on the left are the Texas Wing of the International ProNet AirCrew :- Jason, Fitz and Raymond. On the Right side photo .. well, we'll get to that next..

Jason (fast talkin') Nowell used me as bait, like a man would use a cute puppy, to talk us into the largest Hooters in the world. Not that I minded.. Soon these fabulous women were swarming around, we talked rotor tech trash, and I managed to dump Jason.

After all the maneuvers we've been doing with the Texas team, we figured we'd better drop by Bell Helicopter  for a checkup of the rotors and the electronic systems. Unfortunately, Bell was not up on the ProNet Rotor System, so we skipped on over to Lockheed Martin. You can never be too careful these days.

As the sun sets on a great day spent with new friends at the field, memories of the past week drift on by like Texas tumbleweeds in the wind. Seems everything in Texas is as they claim .. bigger and better. Texas is the kinda place that makes you want to clean out your bank account, jump on your Harley, and just go there.

Thanks again to the ever resourceful ProNet International Aircrew (Texas Wing) for showing us the real Texas, in real time.. Say there Three-Dee NT,  where did Jason and Fitz go? Back to Hooters? Geez, Raymond I need some sleep ... put that camera away ...
